(NEXSTAR) — Boo! Halloween is among the biggest candy holidays — per CNBC, Easter tops both Halloween and Valentine’s Day for candy sales — so get your sweet teeth ready for at least a month of eating leftover candy.
But which candies in the trick-or-treat pail would you go for first?
Recently, DoorDash analyzed ordering data from last Halloween season to determine which candies were popular in which states. And as it turns out, Texans love their peanut butter and chocolate.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were Texas’ top candy — in addition to 23 other U.S. states, making it the most popular Halloween candy, according to DoorDash’s data. Second place goes to Gushers Tropical Fruit Flavored Snacks, which was the favorite in 15 states.
Did you know? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups date all the way back to 1928. According to The Hershey Company, the confection was created by Hershey employee H.B. Reese, who created the cups in his basement. The company says it supplied Reese with the chocolate to cover the cups and the item became a huge hit. Hershey bought Reese’s business in 1963, the company says.
Hershey reports that Reese’s are its top-selling candy brand, generating $3.1 billion annually for the company. It’s next-highest-earning brand is its Hershey’s chocolate brand, which earns $2.4 billion annually.
Over the years, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have come in a variety of sizes — including the oversized Big Cup and bite-size Miniatures — and fillings, including Caramel, Crunchy Cookie Cup and the curious Elvis Presley-tribute Peanut Butter and Banana Creme.
