The Bobcats claimed their first state title since 2007.
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Celina Bobcats dominated the Kilgore Bulldogs 55-21 in the 4A-Division I State Championship game Friday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.
The Bobcats concluded their perfect 16-0 season by securing the program’s first state title since 2007.
The standout performance of the game came on the defensive side as the Bobcat’s stout defense entered the contest allowing an average of just 16.5 points. Coupled with a solid first-half offensive performance, the Bobcats took a 27-14 lead into halftime — and they didn’t slow down.
Celina entered the game averaging a whopping 51.2 points per game. They eclipsed this mark in the third quarter via a 28-point onslaught, putting them up 55-14, leaving little doubt about their odds to claim the title.
Junior Bobcat QB Bowe Bentley threw for a total of six touchdowns, two went to No. 2 Colton Rodriguez and another two went to No. 0 Ethan Rucker.
Celina switched to a heavy run game in the fourth quarter which proved to be too much for the Bulldogs to handle as the Bobcats held onto the ball for the final five minutes of play.
With their ninth state title, the Bobcats not only extended their storied legacy but also reset the program’s standard to the highest point for future teams.
