Chase ends with suspect shot in Kaufman County, sheriff’s office says

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A suspect was shot after a traffic stop led to a chase in Kaufman County early Tuesday morning, officials said.

The incident started sometime Tuesday morning along U.S. 175 in the Crandall area, according to a 6:30 a.m. update from the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office. The update said a sheriff’s deputy had pulled over a vehicle for a traffic stop, “which escalated into a vehicle pursuit.”

The chase ended in the 1300 block of the U.S. 175 frontage road in Crandall, where the suspect then tried to flee on foot, the sheriff’s office said.

During the foot chase, shots were fired, and the suspect was struck, according to the update from the sheriff’s office. The update did not say who fired the shots. The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment.

No officer was injured during the incident. More details about the shooting were not initially released.

The U.S. 175 northbound frontage road was shut down while authorities investigated the shooting.
