Construction continues on Parker Road in Plano | City officials say everything’s on schedule to be completed by summer 2026

A spokesperson with the City of Plano said it’s a four-year project.

PLANO, Texas — At Hirsch’s Meats in Plano, owner Gary Hirsch knows how to keep the customers coming back.

“Even though we’re a meat market, everyone that walks through that door is going to get waited on by a person,” he said.

But for months, customers have also been greeted by something less inviting: construction work.

Plano’s Parker Road Project is now in its second phase. The first phase, which started in 2023, focused on replacing a nearly 40-year-old waterline. Now, crews are replacing the concrete.

“Why is it taking so long?” Hirsch asked. “We’ve seen them repair a section, then come back, tear it up, and redo it.”

According to Steve Stoler, a spokesperson for the City of Plano, the project is part of a four-year infrastructure improvement plan.

“On average, 20,000 cars travel on Parker Road each day,” Stoler said.

The construction stretches from Parker Road to Independence and Alma Road, right where Hirsch’s Meats is located. Stoler said after this phase, the final stage will involve an asphalt overlay, making for a smoother drive.

“It’s going to be a smoother and safer ride to wherever you’re going in Plano,” Stoler added.

For Hirsch, the construction is something he knows won’t hinder his business for long. He knows that once the dust settles, the improvements will be worth it.

“I know when it’s done, everyone’s going to forget the pain, and it’ll be wonderful,” he said.
