Costumes from the hit movie musical “Wicked” are on display at a North Texas Museum in a new exhibit open today.
ARLINGTON, Texas — A bit of the magic of Oz has arrived in North Texas and it’s sure to be “popular.”
Costumes from the new blockbuster movie musical “Wicked” is on display at the Arlington Museum of Art through April 27.
The free exhibit, called “Wicked Threads: The Artistry of Costume in Oz,” will feature Glinda the Good’s pink bubble dress and the costume Elphaba, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West, wore during her performance of the popular song “Defying Gravity.”
“Costuming and filmmaking is an exciting form of visual art and storytelling. The AMA is always excited to showcase the work of these artists, especially in our free community gallery spaces. We hope to see emerging designers, filmmakers, and other visual artists come to enjoy these costumes from such a universal story”, said Kendall Quirk, AMA Director of Exhibitions.
The new hit movie, which stars Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, is an adaptation of the Broadway musical. The musical is, of course, connected to the 1939 classic movie “The Wizard of Oz.”
The new exhibit comes after Dallas-based Heritage Auctions recently put a pair of Judy Garland’s ruby slippers from “The Wizard of Oz” among other items, up for sale.
Deadline reported this week that “Wicked” passed the $700 million mark at the box office globally.
“The Arlington Museum of Art is always proud to bring exciting new exhibits to Arlington and its visitors. We hope fans of Wicked (2024), costuming, and film enjoy seeing the new versions of these iconic costumes”, says Arlington Museum of Art President and CEO Chris Hightower.
