Crews battling brush fire in southern Dallas

 

The fire involved about an acre in a heavily wooded area of southern Dallas, officials say.

DALLAS — Crews contained a brush fire in a heavily wooded area of southern Dallas on Wednesday afternoon.

Dallas Fire-Rescue were called to the area of the 2600 block of Coombs Creek Drive near West Illinois Avenue shortly before 1:30 p.m. after reports of smoke there, according to a press release.

Crews arrived to find smoke and a fire that involved about 1 acre of land, according to a press release.

“Reportedly, the fire is isolated to an area in which no structures are threatened, but the process is ongoing,” the press release read.

A crew including five engines, two trucks, two brush trucks, one booster and one trail unit, was called to the scene to contain the fire, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.

No injuries have been reported as of about 3 p.m. and as of 5:30 p.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue said the fire was under control. 

A Wind Advisory is in effect in North Texas until 9 p.m. Wednesday with wind gusts near 45 mph expected, leading to an elevated fire danger. Click here for the latest forecast.
