‘Tis the season, and there is no better way to celebrate than with a loving pet by your side.
DALLAS — Dallas Animal Service (DAS) has announced it’s over capacity and is waiving adoption fees for families looking to add a new family member before the holidays.
On Friday, Nov. 29, the shelter reported being at 138% capacity for dogs, with 427 dogs sharing 307 kennels. The shelter also has 36 cats up for adoption.
“These animals are eager to become cherished members of a family,” said Paul Ramon, Director of DAS.
To help find the pet’s homes and empty some space in the shelter, DAS is partnering with BISSELL Pet Foundation for an “Empty the Shelters” campaign from Dec. 1 to Dec. 17. Adoptions include spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip, and engraved ID tag.
The campaign will also make way for some much-needed repairs at the facility, DAS said. The improvements have already begun, and DAS aims to be below 100% capacity for dogs before they begin work in the larger areas of the building.
If you aren’t looking to add a new member to your family permanently, the shelter will also be placing animals in homes for short-term fostering for the holiday season.
“Additionally, if you can open your heart and home as a foster through the holiday season, your support would mean the world to us and them,” Ramon said.
