The sounds of fireworks can be stressful to animals, so Dallas Animal Services is inviting volunteers to help them keep dogs comfortable on New Year’s Eve.
DALLAS — If your New Year’s Eve plans are going to the dogs, Dallas Animal Services has a pitch for you.
Celebratory fireworks can be extremely stressful to dogs on New Year’s Eve and the Dallas Adoption Center is working to provide a calming environment for their shelter pets, Animal Services announced.
Members of the public are invited to read, sing or play a soothing instrument to muffle the sound of fireworks and keep dogs calm, according to a social media post from Dallas Animal Services.
The event will last from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Dec 31 at 1818 North Westmoreland Road, the post states. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own chairs, yoga mats and books to sit and read to the animals, the post states.
A brief safety orientation will precede the event at 10:30 p.m., Animal Services said.
Donations are also welcome, the post states.
