DALLAS — If you’re a Dallas homeowner experiencing sticker shock from your property tax bill, it’s not just you. Dallas County property taxes have shot to among the highest levels in the U.S., according to a new report from CoreLogic.

The report analyzed the growth in tax rates and housing prices across the country and the most populous U.S. counties.

Dallas County property taxes increased 32.7%, or 6.5% year over year from 2019 to 2024 – meaning Dallas County has the third most expensive property taxes among the most populous counties.

In 2024 alone, Dallas County residents paid a median $6,409 in property taxes. Nearby, in Tarrant County, residents paid the second-most expensive property taxes among the most populous counties with residents paying a median $6,633 in property taxes in 2024.

Statewide, Texans paid a median $5,105 in property taxes in 2024, a 35.3 % increase from 2019. Nationally, residents paid a median $3,018 in property taxes in 2024, up 27.4% from 2019.

Broward County in Florida, which includes Fort Lauderdale, had the biggest increase in property taxes with 56.8%, Miami-Dade County also in Florida with 49.5%.

Dallas tied with San Bernardino County in California, which also had a 32.7% increase. Tarrant County wasn’t too far behind Dallas with a 29.3% increase.

The property tax increases follow a rise in housing prices. The report showed Texas’ housing prices skyrocketed 42% from 2019 to 2024.

“While some areas of the country will always be more expensive than others, the national trend toward more expensive properties and greater property tax liabilities is clear,” the report reads. “Already the tax bills climbed an average of 27% from 2019 to 2024. Short of government-led changes, homeowners will continue to contend with rising property taxes year after year.”
