A Mavs fan started a GoFundMe to raise funds for billboards around the AAC, voicing discontent with general manager Nico Harrison and the Adelson family.
DALLAS — Mavs fans are heartbroken and fed up.
The Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade sparked a protest and memorial outside of the American Airlines Center over the weekend, which was torn down Monday morning. The giant banners with Doncic on them were also removed.
The fan base has been loud about its discontent with general manager Nico Harrison’s move, which he claimed sole credit for in his press conference on Sunday.
One fan has made it his mission to install anti-Nico Harrison and anti-Adelson (the Adelson family , who bought the Mavericks from Mark Cuban) billboards in the area surrounding the AAC. A GoFundMe was started entitled “Dallas Deserves Better: Anti-Nico & Adelson Billboards.”
“Trading away Luka Magic has left a deep void in the hearts of Dallas fans. By banding together for this billboard campaign, we’re sending a strong, undeniable message to the Mavs front office: We refuse to be overlooked, and we deserve better decisions,” organizer Jacob Posner wrote.
In the fundraising link, Posner explains he researched available billboard options and broke down the finances – which he calculated were around $82,000 for 16 posters (medium billboards), four large digital billboards and three bulletins (large bulletins).
Posner says if they raise more than the expected $82,000, then the extra money would be used for more billboards in the rest of the city.
There is also a Google form link in the description calling for “clever slogans” or “killer designs” to be used as the billboard content.
“Please remember that these designs must be approved by Bluelinemedia, so don’t go too crazy,” Poser said in the GoFundMe.
