“We’ve got to bring just some closure to this family,” Lt. Tramese Jones said.
DALLAS — Dallas police are searching for a white Acura MDX and its driver they say hit and killed a six-year-old girl.
“If you know something, please say something. This is absolutely heartbreaking,” said Lt. Tramese Jones, Dallas Police Department.
Police responded just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday to the 5900 block of Belt Line Road near Preston Road in Far North Dallas. Surveillance videos from a nearby business show a little girl wandering in the street. Shortly afterward, the white Acura hit the girl. Then, it entered into a parking lot. After stopping for a moment, the driver pulled off, passing right by the 6-year-old girl they struck.
“The driver of that vehicle did not stop and render aid,” Jones said.
When the driver pulled off, surveillance cameras showed another vehicle behind it that stopped, turned on its hazards and waited for help.
The child was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries.
“They kind of hit home to me because I’m a father,” said Michael Coleman, a business employee who works across the street. “Pathetic. I’m trying to figure out who did it and I hope it was an accident. I pray it was an accident.”
“They should have stopped and helped out at least. You know, that’s a human decency,” said Salman Jiwani, who also works in the area.
Jiwani said, while he hurts for the girl and her family, he is also concerned about the traffic on Belt Line Road.
“That’s very, very, very alarming,” said Jiwani. “How fast the traffic is going in and out businesses and stuff like that. I don’t think they’re paying attention.”
He and others told WFAA there have been pedestrian accidents in that area before, especially since the road sits between two apartment complexes.
This tragedy is one Jiwani just can’t fathom.
“That’s horrible,” he said. “And you, you’ve already stopped. Might as well stop and help her out. What’s the point of stopping, then?”
Police have been canvassing the area and checking surveillance videos.
“We’ve got to bring just some closure to this family…Justice has to be served. I mean, this is absolutely heartbreaking, tragic,” Jones said.
