Yella Beezy, whose real name is Markies Conway, is charged with “capital murder while remuneration” for his involvement in the Nov. 2020 murder.

DALLAS — Dallas rapper Yella Beezy was arrested Thursday and charged with capital murder after police said he hired a hitman to murder one-time friend turned rival, Mo3, according to court records.

Yella Beezy, whose real name is Markies Conway, is charged with “capital murder while remuneration” for his involvement in the Nov. 2020 murder.

The felony charge is issued when a “murder occurs in order to receive a benefit or financial settlement paid upon the death of the victim,” according to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. The indictment accuses Yella Beezy of hiring a man named Kewon White to carry out the hit on Mo3, whose real name was Melvin Noble.

Capital murder stands as the most grievous charge under Texas law. Distinct from other murder charges, capital murder carries severe penalties such as life imprisonment without parole or in some rare cases the death penalty, according to the Texas Constitution and Statutes website.

The court documents did not provide information on why authorities believe Yella Beezy hired White to shoot Noble, who also lived in Dallas.

Devin Maurice Brown, Jr. and White are also facing federal charges in connection with Mo3’s death. They were arrested in the weeks immediately following his murder.

On Nov. 11, 2020, Mo3 was driving on Interstate 35 in Dallas, when authorities allege White drove up next to him and got out of his vehicle with a gun in his hand. Mo3 got out of his vehicle and began running south on the freeway as White shot at him, authorities said. White shot Noble and a bystander who was inside a car, police said. The bystander survived but Mo3 was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

White is in federal custody serving a nine-year prison sentence for firearm charges connected to the Mo3 shooting. Brown is being held in the Dallas County Jail.
