The young star reportedly signed a five-year deal at $8.4 million AAV.
DALLAS — The Dallas Stars have extended Wyatt Johnston to a five-year deal with $8.4 million AAV, according to multiple reports.
NHL insiders Elliotte Friedman, Darren Dreger and Sean Shapiro reported on X before the NHL trade deadline that Johnston would remain in Dallas.
News of Johnston’s extension broke after the Stars added right winger Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes .
Johnston, 19, was drafted No. 23 overall in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Stars and has been a standout center for three seasons.
According to our partners at DLLS Stars, Johnston and Rantanen have the same agent, so both deals being done in the same day makes sense.
Johnston has 59 points (23 goals, 36 assists) in 62 games this season, which ranks third on the team.
The Stars are coming off a perfect homestand (4-0-0) with wins over the Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings. Dallas is 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
