Safety officials said the city of Bonham in Fannin County sustained “considerable damage” during Sunday night storms.
BONHAM, Texas — Strong winds and lightning caused damage in parts of North Texas Sunday after widespread storms swept through the area, emergency officials said.
Parts of North Texas saw damaging winds up to 65 mph Sunday night. Parts of Navarro County reported 70 to 80 mph winds early Monday morning. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for several counties overnight.
In Bonham, a city in Fannin County, officials said they were aware of downed power lines, downed trees and road hazards caused by the storm. No major injuries were reported, officials said in a social media post.
The city asked residents not to move debris until crews have assessed any damage, according to the post.
“We will be assessing the damage at first light and have more information to come,” the post reads. “Everyone, please use caution this evening into tomorrow morning.”
In Palo Pinto County, the storm knocked out the 911 system for Emergency Services District No. 1, officials said. Calls are being rerouted and answered as officials work to restore service.
WFAA crews in Mineral Wells found power lines and poles knocked down due to the storm overnight. Early Monday morning, thousands were without power due to outages in Palo Pinto County, according to Oncor.
