National media and the Democrat Party are fixated on the mass shooting at a mall in Allen, Texas that left nine people dead, including the shooter. As our Twitchy colleague, PolitiBunny (The Foo) has pointed out:
She’s not wrong. The “powers” in the FBI are still refusing to release Audrey Hale’s manifesto, because the minute it was revealed she was part of the transgender community and identified herself on social media as a man, the narrative flipped from three children and three adults murdered at a Christian school to: How dare we paint the transgender community as rage-filled murderers?
Maybe stop acting as though you are rage-filled crazies and then we’ll assume otherwise.
In the Texas shooting, first 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia was a “white supremacist” and part of a right-wing hate group. His name, the fact that his parents could not even speak English, and the decidedly gang-aligned tattoos kind of said otherwise. Even the brain trust at The Spew View tried to spin that Blacks and Hispanics can still be white supremacist.
Mmmkay.
This premise, first started by the Washington Post is unraveling, as my colleague Brad Slager explained:
One day, the press will learn to wait for the facts before casting accusations, but at the Washington Post, it is not today.
As the news flashed about the horrific shooting that took place in Allen, Texas on Saturday, the Washington Post rushed out an early report on the incident. Although they had sketchy details regarding the shooter and what took place, one thing the paper was confident in reporting: the likelihood of the shooter being a white supremacist.
There appear to be too many things aligned to resist running forward with a narrative on this event: an AR-15 is said to have been used, the shooting took place in Texas, and the gun control messaging was all set to go. Finding out the killer was possibly also from a hate group would be just the icing the paper needed on this four-layer outrage dessert.
In systematic fashion, Slager tears apart the ridiculous narrative, as well as the allegiance to the narrative required to trot out this stuff with a straight face, and then do your darndest to make it stick. For Democrats and their acolytes, the narrative is all, as is their slavish allegiance to gun control.
Enter the idiots who pretend to represent California: Governor Gavin Newsom, Attorney General Rob Bonta, and Reps. Ted Lieu and Adam Schiff. Newsom has been running a de facto presidential campaign for months, and is constantly focused on what is happening in every state that doesn’t have the name “California.” AG Bonta only loves California when he wishes to expose or sue its own citizens, and RedState has documented well the corruption and malfeasance of Lieu and Schiff, who slather after national attention with every media appearance and tweet, but only come to California to grift and raise campaign funds.
So, of course, they stepped all over themselves to comment on the Texas mass shooting and talk about how California is the example of common-sense gun legislation. This was Bonta’s Johnny-Come-Lately take.
The bytes were barely cool on the breaking news before Hair Gel decided he’d weigh in. He spent the entire weekend tweeting about the Texas shooting, how Abbott is not doing his job (that’s rich), and how much more freedom there is in California. Excuse me?!
Here is what makes Bonta’s and Newsom’s grandstanding particularly egregious. In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 6, five people were wounded and one person killed in a mass shooting in… Chico, California.
CHICO — A 17-year-old female died as a result of a shooting at 1050 Columbus Ave. early Saturday, according to the Chico Police Department.
Police emphasized there is not an ongoing threat to public safety, although the shooter is still on the loose.
Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge said officers received a call at 3:26 a.m. Saturday regarding a shooting incident at an apartment complex. Six people — all in their late teens or early 20s — sustained gunshot wounds, five of them with non-life-threatening injuries. The sixth victim was the 17-year-old female.
This was hours before the mass shooting that occurred in Texas. Bonta, or his office staff, released the tweet above on Sunday, May 7 at 11:56 p.m. I perused Gavin Newsom’s, AG Bonta’s, and Rob Bonta’s personal Twitter feeds, and not one tweet mentioned this shooting in Chico. But Bonta has all types of brass to brag about how “leadership” and strict gun laws make the difference in California as opposed to Texas. Bonta even had the gall to call Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas a coward.
Go. Sit. Down.
California Assemblyman James Gallagher (R-AD3) also had to remind Newsom that he is the governor of California and that a mass shooting occurred on his watch.
Radio Host Joe Pagliarulo also threw cold water on Newsom’s naked superiority dance.
All this grandstanding by Newsom and Co. about Texas while conveniently ignoring what is happening in their own backyard is not only spitting in the eye of Californians but on this young girl’s grave.
The local news media, which should be airing the dirty laundry of Newsom’s malfeasance and hypocrisy, instead are acting as his PR arm. This article by the supposedly local Fox 5 San Diego 5 is a ridiculous paean to Newsom, glowingly written and talking about how Newsom “blasts” Governor Greg Abbott over his policies, airing everything about the mass shootings that have occurred in Texas, including Uvalde, in the most judgmental of terms, while painting Newsom as a white knight in his defense of California and its policies. This article was published on May 7 and subsequently updated hours later. Not one word in the article gives mention to the mass shooting that happened on May 6 in Chico, California, or even of the January 2023 mass shootings in Monterey Park, California and Half Moon Bay.
Newsom and his Democrat Party ilk are deluded into thinking they are burnishing their credentials for higher office, and much of the legacy media is complicit in furthering the delusion because they refuse to call out the disconnect. Emily Hoeven is a local journalist who has written for Cal Matters and currently writes for the San Francisco Chronicle. She appeared on Inside California Politics to discuss Newsom’s penchant for fixating on the problems in other states while tacitly ignoring his own.
WATCH:
We basically want him to do the job he was elected to do, which is lead California and focus on its most pressing issues.
Why is this hard, California Governor Newsom? Between vacations and traipsing around red states trying to point out their problems, why does the governor have trouble staying at home? Newsom was out of California for half of April despite an ulcerous fentanyl crisis, rampant homelessness, and open-air drug dens, needles, and feces in the streets, and that $22.5 billion deficit hanging over the state like the Sword of Damocles. And the state is still bleeding residents, despite Newsom claiming the California Adios is a myth.
But Hoeven drove home that people in other states are watching California, and not in a good way. Newsom’s inability to address and actually solve the issues of his own state is more of a reflection of his leadership than the hot air and word salads that emit from his pie hole.
Until the governor really solves the problems in his own backyard, it’s going to be hard for other states to really take him seriously, to be quite frank.
They should take Newsom and his party seriously–they are a serious threat to constitutional liberties and proper governance.
