Democrats Would Be Fools to Not Be Concerned About GOP Investigations

Democrats have every reason to be afraid. In fact, they should be downright terrified about the party’s political future. Not only are they set to lose big in the upcoming congressional elections, but Republicans are also already preparing a series of investigations that will undoubtedly make President Joe Biden, their fearless leader, appear to be even worse than he has already made himself look.

Yet, if a recent report is to be believed, the White House appears to be unconcerned about the impending investigations. It is highly likely that this administration is actually clueless enough to believe that they have nothing to worry about. But if they are smart, they might just be projecting confidence in public while nervously wringing their hands in private.

Politico published a piece indicating that the Biden administration believes the upcoming investigations that will likely begin next year will work in its favor.

“There is a growing confidence in the White House that the House Republicans clamoring for a hodgepodge of investigations will overreach — and that their attempts will backfire politically, with key voters recoiling at blatant partisan rancor,” the author wrote. “Officials believe they can use GOP efforts to their political advantage heading into the 2024 cycle, betting a pro-Trump Republican conference fixated on Biden will elevate ‘ultra-MAGA Republicans’ and provide a useful foil for Biden, allowing him to draw sharp contrasts between his governing and their obfuscating.”

A White House ally told the news outlet that Republicans’ “sense for what will resonate with middle-of-the-road folks [is wrong]” and that these investigations are “not going to be the kind of extremist performance that these hearings will likely end up being.”

The individual continued:

“It might make the base feel good, and it’s going to give [Republican Reps.] Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene something awesome to say on their live stream, but it’s not going to be what convinces suburban women in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and his allies have been vocal about their plans to launch a series of probes into the Biden administration over a slew of different issues.

The Washington Post reported:

House Republicans have so far pledged to investigate President Biden’s son Hunter’s business dealings and art sales, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the Biden administration’s military withdrawal from Afghanistan, the origins of the novel coronavirus, coronavirus-related school closures, the administration’s deliberations over weapons sales to Ukraine, and the spending of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. Most recently, in the wake of widespread Republican outrage over the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago, McCarthy vowed to investigate the Justice Department.

Crikey, that’s a lotta investigations!

If House Republicans are true to their word, they are going to be quite busy over the next few years.

But, even Politico notes that despite the White House’s bluster about the matter, “aides have been preparing for the investigative onslaught that will come with a GOP takeover.”

In fact, The Washington Post also reported that the administration has enlisted the help of Anita Dunn, a former Biden adviser, who is returning to the White House to prepare the president’s team for the impending barrage.

If members of Biden’s team truly believe these investigations will backfire on Republicans, then they have not been paying attention to the overall political landscape. In fact, most of the issues the GOP plans to investigate are items that would be of interest to the public.

America deserves to know what happened leading up to the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. They would likely welcome more information on the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. When it comes to Hunter Biden, polling shows that even most Democratic voters believe it is either “somewhat” or “very” important to look into his business dealings.

In light of this, it seems a bit silly to suggest that these issues will somehow negatively affect Republicans.

Indeed, even if Republicans look into matters related to the FBI’s search of former President Donald Trump’s home and others concerned with the Justice Department, the public is unlikely to mind.

The fact of the matter is that Democrats should be concerned about what the GOP will find in its investigations. It is not hard to see that the Biden administration has much to answer for, and unless some miracle occurs, this situation is not going to backfire on Republicans. Democrats and their comrades in the activist media had better be ready to do some serious damage control.
