Police said a man tried to break into a DeSoto woman’s house Friday night. After multiple calls, officers arrived to find the man shot.

DESOTO, Texas — A man who tried to break into a home in DeSoto, Texas, is in the hospital after the woman who owns the property shot him, police said.

According to DeSoto PD, 35-year-old Octavio Flores Mondragon tried to break into a home in the 400 block of Raintree Circle armed with a pistol just before 8 p.m. on Friday. According to police, dispatch received multiple calls from neighbors and from the woman who was inside the home.

Police said dispatch could hear screaming as the Mondragon tried to force his way into the home through the rear garage door. Multiple neighbors also reported hearing gunshots, according to DPD.

According to DeSoto PD, the woman told officers she noticed a dark truck following her into the neighborhood. When she arrived home, the truck parked behind her in the driveway, so she ran into the house and called 911, police said. Police said the woman armed herself with a handgun and shot at Mondragon as he attempted to break in, which stopped him.

When officers arrived, the woman was in front of her home and told them she believed she shot the suspect around the back of the house, DeSoto police said.

According to a statement released by the department, officers found Mondragon on the ground with two gunshot wounds to the chest and face and a loaded pistol next to him. DPD said officers provided first aid until an ambulance took him to a local hospital in critical condition.

DPD said Mondragon is charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Another Felony.
