WFAA caught up with Cowboys fans from North Texas and across the country to get their reaction to Brian Schottenheimer being named as head coach.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Dallas Cowboys fans are paying attention.
“We were listening to the press conference of the new hire,” said Ann Buol. “I heard a lot about Jerry talking.”
After a coaching search that floated names like Deion Sanders, Pete Carroll and more, it was ultimately Brian Schottenheimer who is now the 10th head coach of America’s Team.
During Monday’s press conference introducing the Cowboys’ new coach, Schottenheimer talked about his journey in the NFL, his family, and the ways that he wants to approach the job.
“I feel like Brian Schottenheimer’s gonna be a good head coach. My concern is, will he be a good head coach in Dallas? We saw the press conference today, and one of the major problems I feel is the culture of Dallas. We saw Steven and Jerry Jones stealing the show,” said Jordan Tucker, a lifelong Cowboys fan host of CFO Sports.
It’s been a mixed bag of feelings about Schottenheimer leading the Cowboys, but for fans, it’s all about production on the field, in particular in the playoffs.
“It’s been a little bit of a drought, but I’m looking forward to getting back to that here in the near future,” said Cowboys fan Shane Besler.
There is optimism about what Schottenheimer could bring to the team because, after all, you can’t keep Cowboy Nation down no matter who the coach is.
“I think whenever somebody becomes a head coach for the first time, they really do put their heart and soul into it. So, I am looking forward to seeing what he can do,” Besler said.
“We’ll win the NFC East this year,” said fan Tob Rob.
“Next year is our year,” said Buol.
Schottenheimer’s success will ultimately hinge on the play of quarterback Dak Prescott, who is expected to return healthy in 2025. Schottenheimer’s supporters have pointed to his close relationship with Prescott, who attended Monday’s press conference in support of his new coach.
