Texans flying out of DFW know getting to your gate is gonna be a haul. A new study says it’s the longest airport walk in the country.
DALLAS — Put on your comfy shoes and start your fitness watches.
Everyone knows if you’re flying out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), you’re gonna get your steps in for the day, most likely. In fact, the longest “airport walk” in the entire country is at DFW, according to a study conducted by KURU Footwear.
If you ever feel like you’ve done a 5k getting to your flight, well, you’ve might have done nearly half of one. The trek from the entrance to the farthest gate in DFW, KURU’s study found, is 1.5 miles, which is the longest in the U.S. Denver International Airport (DIA) has the second-longest airport walk, according to the study, at 1.14 miles.
The shortest walk is 0.03 miles at the Trenton-Mercer Airport in New Jersey.
The lengthy walks at DFW and DIA can be attributed to their sheer size. According to the study, DFW is ~26.9 square miles in terms of land size, and DIA is ~52.4 square miles. DIA is the largest airport in the U.S. and the second-largest in the world, according to WorldAtlas. DFW is America’s second-biggest and fifth in the world.
DFW has five terminals with 171 total gates, and DIA has one main terminal with three concourses and 143 total gates.
