Warm temperatures and storm chances will get our week underway. Here’s the latest forecast update:

Key takeaways

  • Storm chances increase overnight Monday
  • Severe weather possible through Tuesday morning
  • Dry, windy and warm as storms move out

March in like a lion?

“March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb” is a weather folklore stating that March starts with “bad weather” and ends on a calmer note. We will see if that holds true!

Tuesday is the day we’re going to watch a little more closely as a stronger system moves across the southern plains with higher instability or more energy for storms to strengthen. Quarter size hail and gusts to 60 mph will be possible with Tuesday’s storms. In our far eastern counties, a quick spin up or isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. The instability and shear in the atmosphere increases as you approach Arkansas and Louisiana.

Right now the best chance for rain and thunderstorms is overnight Monday through Tuesday morning. We look to dry out and turn sunny and windy by the afternoon as the storms and severe threat move well to our east. The fire threat will be elevated west of I-35 by midday Tuesday.

Here’s the Tuesday rain timeline:

The Storm Prediction Center, SPC, has highlighted the eastern half of North Texas for the potential of strong to severe storms. This would likely be during the morning hours on Tuesday with severe chances shifting east of I-35 by late Tuesday morning into the midday hours.

The next couple of weeks are still looking a lot more like spring! We have a few chances of rain and storms coming up with highs staying in the 60s and 70s. We have a few chilly mornings ahead but nothing terribly cold.
