KSAT spoke with the owners of the restaurant, who said they are closing the Houston Steet eatery for good but plan on opening another restaurant in the future. The location of that future restaurant or what type of food it will serve is not known at this time.

“If you would have told me 10 years ago all of the amazing things we would accomplish or how many beautiful humans this journey would lead us to meet, I would have said you were crazy,” Dignowity Meats owners said in the social media post.

“We have truly cherished our time on the East Side and will forever hold a special place for this restaurant in our hearts,” the post stated. “Thank you to everyone who played a part in this journey, every guest who dined with us, every employee past or present who helped us build something special.”

The restaurant did not mention the cause of the closure.

Dignowity Meats’ last service day will be Monday, Dec. 30.

KSAT spoke with some customers during the lunch hour, who said they heard the news of the closure and it’s why they visited the BBQ establishment for lunch.

“To eat here a few times before they do close,” Gary Faktor said. “We’ve been here in the past it’s been a while since we’ve been here. And the food was always good. It’s always in the evenings we we come for dinner time. We haven’t been here for lunch so we figured we’d come down here and try it before they did close up.”

One customer said he drove all the way from Austin to eat at the restaurant before the closure.

“I heard it was closing,” Jeff Hawkins said. “I live in Austin and I have had this on my list for a while and thought well I better get down here now and check it out while it’s still open.”

Dignowity Meats is located at 1701 E. Houston St. in the Dignowity Hill neighborhood on the East Side.
