AUSTIN (KXAN) — People gathered at the Texas State Capitol on Saturday morning to speak out against the Trump administration and Elon Musk and to support working families.
Austin congressmen Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, and Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas, were in attendance, as well as Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts.
“Republican lips are sealed when Trump and Musk seek to defund our nonprofits, our local governments, our medical research labs and to fire employees not for just cause, but just to add to the body count for their next press conference,” Doggett said as one of the speakers.
Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been slashing civilian federal jobs, but this week, President Donald Trump pushed Musk and Cabinet secretaries to be more careful in cuts to the federal workforce.
“I don’t want to see a big cut where a lot of good people are cut,” Trump said.
“We are here to remind Elon and Donald that the Constitution of this great nation applies to everyone, even presidents and billionaires,” Warren said.
Sarah West was one of the attendees at the rally.
“We are here to show everyone that we do care in Texas,” she told KXAN.
