Drone show element of Dallas’ Reunion Tower NYE show scrapped, officials say

A child in Florida was injured recently at one of the shows conducted by the North Texas-based drone company.

DALLAS — The North Texas-based drone company, Sky Elements Drones, will not be part of the 2024 Reunion Tower New Year’s Eve show, a spokesperson confirmed to WFAA.

In a statement to WFAA, Dusti Groskreutz, the President of Reunion Tower, said the drone company informed Reunion Tower that they will not be able to fly their New Year’s Eve show “out of an abundance of caution following a recent incident as they carefully review their processes for future shows.”

Video from a Orlando drone show, which was conducted by Sky Elements Drones, showed several drones falling out of the sky, one of which injured a child.

Sky Elements Drones told WFAA after the Orlando incident occurred “we are diligently working with the FAA and City of Orlando officials to determine the cause and are committed to establishing a clear picture of what transpired.” The drone show company continued, “millions of people see our shows annually, and we are committed to maintaining the highest safety regulations set forth by the FAA.”

This year marks the ninth installment of the Lone Star NYE celebration, according to a press release from Reunion Tower, and was described to be “bigger and better” than ever, featuring 5,000 pyrotechnic special effects, an LED light display and 500 drones.

Now, Groskreutz said in the statement that “despite this change, viewers can look forward to a dazzling New Year’s Eve celebration with Reunion Tower’s 259 LED light show and the iconic fireworks spectacular lighting up the night sky.”

Reunion Tower’s Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube channels will livestream the event, and The Spot (98.7 FM) will simulcast the display.
