Duncanville girls basketball coach takes over boys team, aiming to continue winning tradition

 

Neiman Ford takes over as head coach of Duncanville boys basketball team after leading the girls to a state title.

DUNCANVILLE, Texas — After leading Duncanville High School’s girls basketball team to a state championship and earning 2024 Coach of the Year honors, Neiman Ford is stepping into a familiar role. 

The district announced Ford as the new head coach of the boys’ basketball program, where he previously served as assistant and interim head coach.

Ford first joined the boys’ program in 2018, helping guide the team to back-to-back UIL 6A Division 1 state championships. When he took over as interim head coach in 2022, he led the Panthers to a 29-1 season and a No. 1 national ranking by USA Today .

In 2023, Ford became the head coach of the girls program, where he made an immediate impact. In his first season, he coached the Pantherettes to their 12th state title with a 35-4 record and a No. 10 national ranking. 

“Leading the powerhouse Pantherettes has been one of the highlights of my career,” Coach Ford said in a news release. “I’m grateful for their support and the unforgettable memories we’ve created together. I’m excited for this new opportunity and committed to continuing a program that develops and supports the whole student-athlete. My focus is on creating a winning environment that prepares our athletes for success, both on and off the court.”

Duncanville ISD highlighted Ford’s diverse coaching background, noting his experience leading teams in basketball, soccer, football, and track and field. Throughout his career, he has even helped develop All-American athletes and Team USA Gold Medalists.

Superintendent Dr. T. Lamar Goree spoke highly of Ford and his ability to lead.

“Coach Ford has shown remarkable grit and perseverance,” Goree said. “He knows our district well and has consistently demonstrated how to support our student-athletes in achieving success, both on the court and in the classroom. He is more than prepared to continue our tradition of excellence and further our legacy of winning.”
