Early-morning fire displaces 2 on Southwest Side

SAN ANTONIO – A woman and her child have been displaced following a fire at a makeshift apartment on the city’s Southwest Side early Thursday morning, the San Antonio Fire Department said.

The fire was called in just before 3 a.m. in the 1600 block of West Mayfield Boulevard, not far from Bynum Avenue and New Laredo Highway.

Firefighters said the fire appears to have started in a storage container next to a freight container that had been converted into an apartment. The fire then quickly spread to the apartment. Firefighters arrived and got a quick knock down of the fire.

Fire officials say the cause is still under investigation. The two residents living at the apartment, a woman and a child, are now displaced.

The San Antonio Fire Department and the San Antonio Police Department both answered the call.

No injuries were reported.
