CROCKETT, Texas — An East Texas man has been charged with capital murder in connection with May 2024 death of a 78-year-old man.

Robert Lee Steveson, 64, of Crockett, was indicted on the charge on Friday for accusations of killing Herbert “Andy” Allen, of Crockett. He has been in the Houston County Jail since June 5, 2024 because of charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and a parole hold, according to the Crockett Police Department.

His bond for the capital murder charge has been set at $250,000.

Allen was found dead inside his home in the 800 block of Monroe Street on May 23, 2024. Because his death seemed suspicious, an autopsy was ordered and early results ruled a homicide, police said.

Crockett police said because of the case’s sensitive nature, further information will not be released at this time.
