Elvis Andrus named to Rangers Hall of Fame

The longtime Rangers shortstop will be inducted into the team’s hall of fame this summer.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Elvis Andrus is the next Texas Rangers team hall of famer.

The club announced Wednesday that Andrus will be inducted into the Texas Rangers Baseball Hall of Fame on June 28, before the Rangers play the Seattle Mariners at Globe Life Field.

It’s a rightful honor for Andrus, who started more games at one position than any player in Rangers history. He was also a fixture for the club’s best stretch of seasons, and that run started, in effect, with his acquisition from the Atlanta Braves when he was just a prospect.

The 2007 trade that sent Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay to Atlanta in exchange for Andrus, Neftali Feliz and Jarrod Saltalamacchia is viewed as the most pivotal in franchise history. Andrus was the centerpiece, debuting as a full-time starter in 2009 and playing the next 12 seasons in Arlington, through 2020.

While never the strongest hitter, Andrus was a consistently durable player — from 2009-2017, he played at least 145 games every year — and typically the Rangers’ top defender, alongside third baseman Adrian Beltre.

Andrus earned a pair of all-star nods in 2010 and 2012 and played a key role on the Rangers’ back-to-back American League pennant teams in 2010 and 2011. When Beltre signed with the Rangers in 2011, Andrus was a natural foil to the humorous Beltre, annoyingly patting the veteran on his head whenever he got the chance.

Beltre signed with the Oakland Athletics in 2021 and then finished his career with the Chicago White Sox in 2023.

Andrus finished his career with 2,091 hits, 1058 runs and 347 stolen bases, 305 of which came with the Rangers for a club record. He batted .269 with a .325 on-base percentage across 15 seasons.

Andrus officially retired as a Ranger in 2024 and he’ll be joining the Rangers Sports Network as an analyst for the 2025 season.

Also announced Wednesday by the Rangers was that the Beltre statue will be unveiled on Aug. 22. Beltre was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame last year.
