Ex-detective faces second family violence charge in 9 months, accused of threatening woman if she went to police

SAN ANTONIO – A former Somerset Police Department detective was arrested Wednesday, days after Bexar County Sheriff’s Office investigators said he assaulted a woman inside an apartment and threatened her if she reported him to law enforcement, records show.

Alvaro Ramirez III, 37, was taken into custody Wednesday morning on charges of felony continuous family violence and misdemeanor terroristic threat of a family member, jail records show.

It is the second time in less than nine months that Ramirez has been charged with a family violence offense.

Ramirez is currently on bond for an incident in April in which he was accused of injuring a woman by dragging her up the stairs of a far West Side apartment complex.

Wednesday’s arrest stems from a Jan. 10 incident at the same complex, arrest warrant records show.

Warrant: Ramirez struck victim, dragged her back inside apartment and across the floor

A woman contacted BCSO deputies on Tuesday and said that days earlier, on Jan. 9, Ramirez and she had an argument about disciplining her child, records show.

The argument continued on Jan. 10, and as the woman tried to leave the apartment in the 12100 block of Alamo Ranch Parkway with her child, Ramirez stood in the doorway and struck the woman in the face with his hand, injuring her, an arrest warrant states.

The woman fell backward, at which point Ramirez grabbed her by the wrist and “yanked her back inside the apartment,” causing her to fall and land on her knees, the warrant states.

Ramirez then dragged the woman across the floor, causing cuts to both of her knees and grabbed her purse in order to stop her from leaving, records show.

After the woman fled from the apartment with her child, Ramirez threatened to hurt her if she contacted law enforcement, the warrant states.

Ramirez is scheduled to be arraigned on the terroristic threat charge on Feb. 19, court records show.

No arraignment date had been set in the felony family violence case as of Wednesday afternoon.

Ramirez’s listed defense attorney in the 2024 family violence case declined to comment Wednesday, telling KSAT he was unaware of his client’s most recent arrest.

In that incident, Ramirez is accused of injuring a woman’s left arm and left hand by dragging her up a set of stairs, according to records.

The woman was able to escape from the apartment and contact law enforcement after Ramirez fell asleep, according to records.

Ramirez is scheduled for a pretrial conference in his 2024 case on March 19, court records show.

Somerset PD ended the employment of Ramirez last April, around the time the first family violence incident was reported to law enforcement.
