Family, friends hold balloon release in remembrance of 21-year-old San Antonio man killed one year ago

SAN ANTONIO – Loved ones gathered to remember a man who died in a North Side crash one year ago.

Latrevious Reed, 21, was a food delivery driver for Uber Eats. On Dec. 13, 2023, San Antonio police said Reed and his partner were both in the vehicle on the Loop 410 eastbound access road near Jones Maltsberger Road when they lost control, hit a barrier, crashed into a second vehicle and barreled through a gated parking lot.

Reed was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family and friends turned the first anniversary of Reed’s death into a celebration. They released balloons in his memory on Friday at Meadowlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

“Over the year, we’ve had time to reflect on his life and his impact on everybody out here,“ Reed’s mother, Monique Thompson Reed, told KSAT on Friday. ”We have all recognized how tremendous the impact was.”

Thompson Reed said her family has remained strong for Reed’s daughter, London.

“I think the balloon release symbolizes (that) we know he’s still here, and he’s going to catch all our hearts,” Thompson Reed said. “All the memories of his excellent sports career wearing No. 7. I think that that encapsulates how we feel, and we know that he’s watching over us. So, we’re sending him some love.”
