Fatal multiple-vehicle wreck on US Highway 77 N

   

VICTORIA, Texas – Multiple vehicles are involved in a wreck on US Highway 77 north of Victoria near Tate Road.

The wreck was reported to law enforcement at around 6:50 a.m. Friday.

A vehicle with a man, woman and child was stalled out on the highway going southbound. The stalled vehicle had no lights, and the visibility was less than 700 feet (1/8 mile) Friday morning, due to heavy fog.

The man got out and tried to push the car across the road. Another vehicle, a white pickup truck, was unable to see the stalled-out vehicle and struck the car. The woman in the black stalled-out car was declared deceased at the scene. The man and the child were not injured. 

The driver of the pickup truck is Victoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who was off duty at the time of the wreck. The deputy was transported to an area hospital with incapacitated injuries.

After the initial collision, another crash occurred about 1,000 feet behind the fatal wreck around 7:45 a.m. Friday. No one was injured in the second crash.
