Genesis Women’s Shelter is holding a “Baby Items Donation Drive” – asking for donations of new, unopened, baby items like diapers and wipes.
DALLAS — Freezes, or the threat of freezes, in federal funding may have an unlikely impact in Dallas — the availability of diapers.
That’s part of the concern at Genesis Women’s Shelter which helps thousands of women and their children escape abusive relationships each year.
The shelter does not rely on federal funding, but some of its suppliers do. The Genesis CEO says the threat of lost federal dollars has some of those suppliers cutting back on donations — diapers included.
“Where these agencies have historically relied on government funds, and I have relied only on private dollars, now there will be more people looking into that funding pool,” said Genesis Women’s Shelter CEO Jan Langbein. “Which absolutely will, rightfully so, but will definitely impact our bottom line.”
In response, Genesis is holding a “Baby Items Donation Drive” — asking for donations of new, unopened, baby items like diapers and wipes. The drive is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at the Genesis offices, 2023 Lucas Drive, in Dallas.
