Federal government approves Missouri Governor Parson’s request for major disaster declaration

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KFVS) – President Joe Biden has approved a major federal disaster declaration to help Missouri after storms in November.

According to Governor Mike Parson, President Biden approved his request for a major federal disaster declaration to help local governments and nonprofit agencies in 14 counties in response to the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred November 3–9, resulting in significant damage to public infrastructure.

Gov. Parson says the declaration makes federal public assistance available for the repair of damaged roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure as well as reimbursement of associated emergency response and recovery costs.

The Governor’s request on November 26 included nearly $45M in qualifying expenses already identified.

“This is important news as the communities impacted by November storms continue on the path to recovery,” Governor Parson said. “We appreciate the President making federal assistance available, which will provide millions of dollars in much-needed support to help our local partners repair roads, bridges, and other critically important infrastructure.”

In the Heartland, the counties included in the disaster declaration include Carter County. The other counties include Crawford, Dent, Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Shannon, Texas, Washington, and Wright Counties.

Gov. Parson says the disaster declaration also makes assistance available statewide through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Program, which assists with cost-effective measures to reduce the potential for future damage to public infrastructure as a result of natural disasters.
