San Antonio ISD officials released results from their repurposing survey that has been open since October 2024.
The survey stemmed from the district approving its “rightsizing” plan in 2023.
The district gave survey responders the option to choose their top three choices for repurposing. The options that earned the most votes were:
-
Fine Arts Programs
-
Early Childhood Education
-
Green Space
Officials said 9,360 people responded to the survey from Oct. 1, 2024, to Jan. 8, 2025.
Of those responses, 54% came from students, 21% from employees and 16% from adults. Sixty-five percent of respondents came from community members who live within the district, twenty-three percent said they did not live in the district and 12% were not sure.
Sixteen percent of survey responders left open-ended comments, which included recommending other ways the buildings could be used.
Some of those suggestions included recreational facilities and educational programs as well as learning centers, shelters and community centers, among others.
SAISD has not yet set a timeline for when final decisions will be made on the buildings.
The district said its survey will remain open for community members to fill out.
A second presentation will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday via Zoom. Anyone interested in watching the presentation can register here to watch.
