Guadalupe County Fire Rescue, Geronimo Volunteer Fire Department, Seguin Fire Department, New Braunfels Fire Department, San Marcos Fire Department and Lake Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the high school to assist with the incident.

“Our staff immediately initiated the evacuation procedures, ensuring the safety of all students and staff. No other campuses were affected by this incident and were able to safely continue with after-school activities,” said Chelsea Ormond, a spokesperson for Navarro Independent School District.

The source of smoke and fire was found within the school’s ventilation system, and the smoke was contained to the front office area, according to the district.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.

“The HVAC system was immediately turned off preventing any further issues to systems in other areas of the school,” Ormond said. “Thankfully, other areas of the campus were unaffected and systems are still operational.”

The district said contractors were on site Tuesday to begin the repairs for the minimal damaged areas.

“The County Fire Marshals Office working with the School District gave all clear and allowed school to continue as normal today, January 14,” Ormond said.
