Flags made by San Antonio’s Dixie Flags to be featured at US presidential inauguration

SAN ANTONIODixie Flag & Banner Company has been locally owned for 67 years and has been commissioned to do flags for seven U.S. Presidential inaugurations.

The order was made even before the election results were final, said owner Vanessa Van De Putte; they were shipped before the start of the new year.

The specialty flags were custom-made to fit the capitol building.

She says to look closely because they are not regular U.S. Flags. “So they’re not regular proportions, but instead made to fit between the pillars. And most people would look at them and think that they’re just 50-star U.S. flags,” she said. “But if you look carefully, they’re actually got a little bit more meaning to it. And so there’s actually a 50-star flag, but also Betsy Ross flag with the 13 stars, and then also a 27-star flag to represent the state of the incoming president, that would be Florida.”

Dixie Flags have been on display across the nation and the world at special events; there’s a lot of pride for workers, too.

Lucy Rodriguez said she will look closely during the inauguration to ensure their work looks right and straight.

“The first time, I was very nervous,” she said. “The first set, I was very, very nervous about doing them. I really was. I guess since it’s the third set, yeah, I’m nervous, but I guess (I‘m) just trying to do what I didn’t do the first and second time. Do the third time better.”
