AUSTIN (KXAN) — Ford Motor Company and Texas electricity provider TXU Energy announced Monday a free at-home electric vehicle charging initiative for some Texas drivers.

The TXU Free EV Miles program is designed to benefit Ford electric SUV and truck owners in Texas, allowing drivers to charge their EVs for free at home, per Ford’s announcement. Through the program, Ford EV drivers who double as TXU Energy customers will receive credits on their energy bill “for all home energy used for vehicle charging during the free charging hours,” along with $350 in enrollment bonuses.

The offer runs year-round, with program hours lasting from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m. the following day to allocate 18 hours of free charging access.

“This partnership with Ford fits squarely into TXU Energy’s broader strategy of educating customers on the benefits of owning an EV, removing barriers to making the switch, and increasing grid resiliency,” said Sam Sen, vice president of energy transition solutions for TXU Energy, in the release. “We are proud to support Ford’s Texas EV customers with flexible, free charging hours and the significant cost savings that come with it.”

The program is applicable for TXU Energy customers with Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E and Escape Plugin Hybrid vehicles, allowing them to earn the credits, the release added. Following enrollment, customers will receive rebates for their at-home charging costs when used during the free charging timespan.

“Encouraging our electric vehicle customers to charge at off-peak hours through programs like Free EV Miles helps to save them money while supporting a more sustainable, resilient electrical grid,” added Bill Crider, Ford’s senior director of global charging and energy services, in the release.
