Dowdle rushed for over 1,000 yards in the 2024 season.
DALLAS — Dallas Cowboys’ former running back Rico Dowdle has signed a deal with the Carolina Panthers, his agents announced Wednesday.
According to a report from NFL Network’s I an Rapoport, Dowdle’s deal with the Panthers is for one year and worth up to $6.25 million.
Dowdle joined the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina in 2020. After missing the 2021 season with an injury, he emerged as a key contributor in 2023, recording 361 rushing yards, 144 receiving yards, and four total touchdowns. The following season, in 2024, his role grew. Dowdle started 15 games and rushed for over 1,000 yards throughout the Cowboys’ tumultuous year.
On Monday, the Cowboys signed former Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams to a one-year, $3 million deal. This addition created the sense that the Cowboys were preparing to be without Dowdle for the upcoming season.
Whether or not the Cowboys choose to pursue another running back in the draft will be a big question come April.
