Just when you thought it was safe to forget about January 6th, 2021, for a while, the issue comes back — this time with a breathless report that former Vice President Mike Pence came “close” to being killed during the hooliganism at the Capitol.

A former Situation Room officer said former Vice President Pence came “close” to being killed on Jan. 6, 2021, during the riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“It’s important to me that we don’t forget that it did come that close, and that we did have discussions, ‘If we lose the [vice president,] if the 25th [Amendment] is invoked,’” Mike Stiegler said in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that aired Tuesday on “Good Morning America,” in a clip highlighted by Mediate. “We started running through all of these game plans because it was getting close.”
Stiegler also agreed with Stephanopoulos when he referred to the Jan. 6. riot as one “of our own people” and “inspired” by Trump.
Stephanopoulos, of course, didn’t ask the question, “What was getting close?” And note there is no input from VP Pence’s Secret Service detail, not that those folks are usually terribly communicative about their operations and how they go about protecting their principles — and with good reason. But the notion that the vice president was in any danger? Nonsense.
Pence faced threats of violence on Jan. 6, related to him not helping overturn the 2020 election. He was at the Capitol when rioters broke in and was taken to an underground loading dock amid the attack, according to the Secret Service.
Of course, he was taken to an underground loading dock. The Secret Service is nothing if not cautious; that’s their job. But there has not been nor is there likely to be any evidence that anyone in the Capitol was in any danger that day, except the protestors themselves; the only direct fatality that day was Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed Air Force veteran who was shot by a panicked Capitol Police officer. There were other deaths around this incident, and several people were injured. There was roughly $1.5 million in damage done, but there is, as of this writing, no evidence that any elected official was ever in any actual danger.

Donald Trump Just Responded to Mike Pence’s Refusal to Endorse Him As Only He Could
The notion that the vice president was ever in any danger is the purest form of corral litter, suitable only for enriching lawns, and should not be taken seriously.
It’s rather ridiculous that the legacy media is still hyperventilating over January 6th. The vice president was never in any danger. It’s a certainty that the Secret Service moved him to a possible egress location out of an abundance of caution, for which they should be commended — they were doing their job. But no elected official had so much as a hair pulled on that day. Glass was broken, furniture was overturned, and selfies were taken, and that’s about it. The event was unfortunate but not disastrous.
The legacy media isn’t about to let this issue go. They will continue to bend every effort to find yet another minor functionary to come forward and breathlessly describe the mind-numbing danger they faced that day, and make no mistake if Donald Trump wins the election in November — as looks likely right now — and/or major urban areas explode in another 2020-style “Summer of Love,” these same legacy media outlets will describe the riots as “mostly peaceful.”
And the legacy media wonders why their approval ratings are somewhere between bad breath and athlete’s foot.
