Former Texas A&M catcher Troy Claunch retires and joins Michael Earley’s coaching staff

Despite spending only one year in College Station, former Texas A&M catcher Troy Claunch clearly had a positive experience in 2022, as he recently decided to return to Aggieland.

After playing professional baseball in the Chicago White Sox organization for two-plus seasons, Claunch has decided to step away from his athletic career.

Claunch is officially retired and will be returning to Texas A&M to complete his master’s in real estate according to Ryan Brauninger of TexAgs. In addition to finishing his degree, per Brauninger, Claunch will join new baseball head coach Michael Earley ‘s staff as a student assistant who will work with catchers and hitters.

Before becoming an Aggie, Claunch spent four years at Oregon State. Prior to that, he graduated from Vacaville High School in Northern California.

In 2021, Claunch was selected to the All-Pac 12 first team. In back-to-back seasons, he was named to the “Buster Posey Award” watch list in 2021 and 2022. Claunch also earned a selection to the 2022 Frisco Classic all-tournament team.
