Nevada is shaping up to be a battleground state for 2024, with Democrat Jacky Rosen’s Senate seat in play. One former Trump ambassador to Iceland has decided to throw his experience and influence into the fray. Dr. Jeff Gunter announced his candidacy on Monday, and has fully embraced and aligned himself with his former boss, making the gamble that, indictments or no, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president.
Former U.S. Ambassador to Iceland Jeffrey Gunter announced Monday that he’s running for the U.S. Senate in Nevada, making him the third high-profile Republican to enter the GOP primary.
Gunter served as the U.S. ambassador to Iceland under former President Trump from 2019 to 2021 and joins former Nevada secretary of state candidate Jim Marchant and retired Army Capt. Sam Brown in the GOP primary to unseat Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.).
“I’m Jeff Gunter, and I’m running for U.S. Senate. I was honored and humbled to serve as President Trump’s ambassador to Iceland, where I fought the deep state, I fought China and I fought Russia’s influence in the Arctic in the great high north,” Gunter said in a more than three-minute campaign ad .
Dr. Gunter spoke exclusively on Saturday with The Nevada Globe and affirmed his support of a Trump presidency and his commitment to partner with him in the fight.
I support him 1,010%. He is one of the greatest presidents since Abraham Lincoln. We had false impeachment number one and false impeachment number two and now, we have bogus indictments. The American people take a back seat to the Deep State and the bureaucracy. This is a massive weaponization of government against President Trump. But the Deep State isn’t after him, they are after us and he is just in the way.
There is great concern with me running. There have been many individuals not wanting me to run as an America First candidate. Yet, we are going to win and we are going to succeed. I am already getting great support from many people.
I think his presidency, and when I become the US Senator from Nevada, will bring great prosperity to Nevadans.
Dr. Gunter joins what is becoming a busy GOP field. Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and former Lieutenant Governor candidate Tony Grady put his hat in the ring on Tuesday. The field so far does not include Adam Laxalt. In 2022, the former state attorney general gave Democrat Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto a run for her money, losing the race by only 8,000 votes.
In his campaign launch video, Dr. Gunter presents professionalism and a folksy, community feel. He comes out swinging against Jacky Rosen and the Biden agenda, signifying he is committed to fight, and not just go along to get along.
The country is an absolute train wreck under Joe Biden.
Dr. Gunter waxed eloquent about his role as an ambassador and all the good that occurred under the Trump administration.
President Trump proved all the naysayers wrong. He moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem. We had the best economy in 70 years with low inflation, low unemployment, no foreign wars, and stronger border security. Everything he said he would do, he did. That is leadership.
I was then blessed with the opportunity to be an Ambassador to Iceland. I was actively engaged in the embassy and the community. I carried out the America First policies of President Trump. When you do that, the Deep State doesn’t like you. We had 120 accomplishments in 20 months and we listed those accomplishments on the Department’s website but the State Department has since removed them.
Dr. Gunter uses all the Trumpisms in his campaign video and makes it clear he will fight to see the former president elected again. As Nevada’s senator, Dr. Gunter plans to partner with Trump to restore his America First agenda.
