FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth police are investigating after an officer fired their service weapon at an armed suspect, the department said.

According to the Fort Worth Department, an armed man was standing outside of the leasing office of an apartment complex in the 8500 block of John T. White Road at about 11:48 a.m. on Wednesday, and multiple witnesses said they feared for their safety. Police said the armed man pointed a gun at the initial witness, who asked people in the leasing office to call for help.

When officers arrived, they found the man in the parking lot and saw him pull out a gun from his waistband, the department said in a statement. Fort Worth PD said a responding officer drew her service weapon and the suspect ran away. During a foot chase, that officer fired her weapon at the man multiple times but did not hit him, police confirmed.

FWPD said the man then barricaded himself in an apartment and was later taken into custody after officers established a perimeter. Nobody, including the man and the responding officers, was hurt, police said. According to the department, a gun and a rifle were recovered from the scene.
