One officer fired at the man after he didn’t immediately comply to commands to show his hands, police say. He was not hit.
FORT WORTH, Texas — A Fort Worth police officer fired his gun at a man while responding to a burglary call Wednesday at a restaurant, only realizing afterward that the man he shot at was the restaurant’s owner.
Police were called to investigate a commercial burglar alarm at about 3:50 a.m. in the 1100 block of Terminal Road, officials say. They were told about an open door at the business.
Upon arriving at about 3:57 a.m., police said they checked the restaurant’s perimeter for signs of an intruder or forced entry. While checking behind the business, they found a man holding a gun.
Police say officers gave the man verbal commands to show them his hands, but he reportedly didn’t comply immediately.
One officer fired his gun at the man, fearing for their safety, police say, but the man wasn’t hit. He then complied with officers and was arrested.
Police say they later learned this man was the owner of the restaurant, and he was released from custody.
The restaurant and a storage area behind the building had been broken into, police said. No one was injured and no arrests have been made.
FWPD’s Major Case Unit is continuing the investigation along with Internal Affairs.
