FORT WORTH, Texas — Abraham Alexander has been busy.
The Fort Worth-based singer/songwriter spent much of 2023 and 2024 performing around the world, supporting his debut album SEA/SONS, playing with stars like Dave Matthews and The Lumineers. And his 2025 is off to an amazing start, sharing an Academy Award nomination with Adrian Quesada for Best Original Song for “Like a Bird,” featured in the movie “Sing Sing.”
I recently sat down with the star to chat about his meteoric rise, the chance text message that led to his award-winning song, and preparing to attend his first Oscars.
Marc: I want you to walk me through the moment you get the call, that you see the announcement.
Abraham: It took me a long first. And then I just started to start tearing up. You know, it’, just a surreal moment because, honestly, though, I’m still trying to process that moment of finding out, and I don’t think I will until this Cinderella story’s kind of wrapped up.
Marc: Sounds like you’re going,
Abraham: I am going.
Marc: Do you have the tuxedo ready? You’ve got the shoes, you’ve got the outfit, you’ve got the whole nine yards?
Abraham: We’re working on it!
Marc: Well, it’s a little easier for the guys, you know?
Abraham: Yeah, yeah, we working on it. I’ve got a few things, going on. I just want to make sure that one – I’ve got incredible friends who are designers and, I want to make sure that I’m representing home. You already know I’ve got to rep Texas. And not just that, but also my friends and home and making sure that I’m bringing them with me. So, yeah, I’m just I’m excited for the Oscars. I’m excited to show up as myself and be authentic and, you know, dress up. I was watching it last year from home, you know, and never, ever placing myself there. You know, just a year later, to actually be at the event is wonderful.
Marc: I’m sure everybody is asking you this, but I’m curious, have you written a speech?
Abraham: I have, I wrote a speech, I wrote it down on my phone on February 1st, I wrote it, and hopefully I get to use it.
