Free transportation to polling places on Election Day in Texas

  

TEXAS — Election Day is quickly approaching, and public transportation services across the state want to ensure voters don’t face any roadblocks getting to the polls. That’s why Austin’s CapMetro, San Antonio’s VIA Transit and Dallas’ DART are providing free rides on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Austin

CapMetro is offering fare-free rides on Election Day. Those using Bikeshare will get a free 60-minute ride by downloading the CapMetro Bikeshare app and choosing the “I Voted” pass that is only available on Nov. 5. Be sure to re-dock your bike before the 60 minutes are up to avoid overage fees. If you’re not sure where your nearest polling place is, plan your ride on the CapMetro app or online and enter “Vote” as your travel destination to find the ones closest to you.

VIA Metropolitan Transit is continuing its Ride VIA to Vote program that began in 2016. It offers customers fare-free service to polling locations on Election Day.

The service is available for regular bus service, VIA Link and VIAtrans paratransit service in the VIA service area. Simply present a valid voter registration card to the bus or van operator. VIAtrans customers will need to schedule their trip. Find a complete list of polling places for Bexar County here.

Dallas

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is offering free rides to polling places within the DART service area on Nov. 5. Transit options include DART buses, trains, GoLink, the Dallas Streetcar, Paratransit Services and the TRE between EBJ Union and CentrePort/DFW Airport stations. Customers will need to show their voter registration card or government ID to utilize the free service.

Those riding the GoLink can use promo code VOTEPRES for a free Adult Local Day Pass in the DART GoPass app.

“DART’s Leadership Team and Board of Directors are committed to the communities we serve and are proud to be able to offer free fares on Election Day,” said DART Executive Vice President and Chief Communications Officer Jeamy Molina. “We hope that by offering these free fares, more people will take on their civic duty and cast a ballot for this election.
