Fugitive shot multiple times by officers during pursuit in Floresville has died, DPS says

FLORESVILLE, Texas – A suspect who was shot by officers during a pursuit with multiple law enforcement agencies in Floresville on Tuesday has died, according to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

He’s been identified as Reymundo Ricardo Flores, 33.

DPS officials said that Wilson County deputies were attempting to locate Flores, who was wanted on an active fugitive warrant out of Guadalupe County for a probation violation.

At about 2:36 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies saw the man walking near U.S. 181 and State Highway 97. The man attempted to evade the deputies and continued walking south toward Floresville High School, according to DPS.

“It was at that point the individual, the suspect, attempted to shoot at law enforcement officers with a handgun. Officers returned fire immediately,” said DPS Lt. Jason Reyes.

Officials contacted Floresville ISD police, who locked down the school immediately. Two other schools were also placed in secure status, according to the district.

Reyes said while the man continued to evade law enforcement, he fired multiple times at officers from several agencies. He said the man was shot multiple times during the pursuit. It’s unclear how many shots were fired and which officers fired. Reyes said the agencies involved include Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, Floresville PD, and Texas DPS Highway Patrol.

The man was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center with critical injuries, where he died

The Texas Rangers will be assisting the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

Floresville ISD officials said students and staff were secure at all times, and all campuses returned to normal operations.

Reyes said there was no other damage to people or property during the pursuit.
