GARLAND, Texas — The Garland Independent School District canceled classes and closed all district offices Tuesday after severe storms hit the area early in the morning.

Initial damage in the area was not yet known.
Garland school district officials said they decided to cancel classes “with student and staff safety as our top concern,” according to a statement.
Students who were on buses Tuesday morning were being taken to the closest Garland ISD campus building until conditions got safer, officials said.
Garland ISD’s last day of school is scheduled for Thursday.
