Georgia fans grade our Texas hospitality ahead of match-up

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A huge match-up unfolded Saturday in Longhorn country. It was so big, even ESPN’s College Game Day stopped by the 40 acres as No. 1 Texas hosted No. 5 Georgia.

While there were plenty of Georgia fans out, they were definitely outnumbered by those wearing burnt orange.

Rather than do a story about how we’re walking into this game as No. 1, or how Texas fans know how to party — or generally just how awesome we are — we wanted to turn the tables.

We asked Georgia fans what Texas should know about being in the Southeastern conference.

Except, we could not really get that answer.

We just got a lot of this.

“Go dawgs!” and even a little of this, “That’s cuz dawgs on top, baby!”

The energy outside the stadium was palpable Saturday. Maybe more than other SEC games, maybe because both of these teams are in the top five. The band “Spoon” played for pre-game fun, which of course is an Austin band that formed here some 31 years ago.

Bevo Boulevard was plenty busy on Saturday, too.

KXAN asked Georgia fans to rate Texas fans on a grading scale of “A” to “F.” This very unofficial KXAN poll came out as follows:

Fifteen people gave fans an “A,” 14 gave a “B,” while just one person gave a “C” grade. Just remember, “C’s” still get degrees.

“Welcome, we’re happy to have you in the SEC,” one woman told KXAN’s Barrett Tryon.

Some fans also know this probably won’t be the last time we see each other.

“We’re not scared. We’ll see you in the SEC championship,” one Georgia fan said.

Even if UGA’s mascot might be a little skittish.
