Governor Abbott urges Texans to report winter weather damages

AUSTIN, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott is calling on Texans affected by recent winter weather to document and report any property and agricultural damages. The Texas Division of Emergency Management offers an online tool for self-reporting these damages.

“The State of Texas continues to deploy all necessary resources to help Texans respond to and recover from ice, snow, and freezing temperatures this week,” said Governor Abbott. He encouraged residents to use the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) damage survey to report losses, which will assist in determining eligibility for federal assistance. Texans are advised to monitor local weather forecasts and road conditions for safety.

The iSTAT survey, available in English and Spanish at damage.tdem.texas.gov, allows Texans to provide critical information for emergency management teams to assess the damage’s severity and scale. This data aids in evaluating the state’s qualification for federal disaster assistance. The use of the iSTAT tool is voluntary and does not replace reporting damages to insurance providers or guarantee disaster relief assistance. Resources, including video tutorials on completing the survey, are available on the website.

The Texas State Operations Center remains at Level II (Escalated Response) to support local officials with state assistance requests. State officials are collaborating with utility regulators to ensure quick restoration of power to those affected by outages. Hazardous road conditions may persist due to overnight refreezing, and Texans are encouraged to avoid travel if possible and heed local officials’ directions. Winter weather resources, including a map of licensed plumbers and warming center information, can be found in the Texas Disaster Portal.
