After missing the bus Wednesday morning in Grapevine, 9-year-old Zavien Keyes took off for his elementary school on foot.
But the boy never made it to Glenhope Elementary in nearby Colleyville, leading to a six-hour police search, urgent news reports and an Athena Alert, an immediate, regional version of an Amber Alert.
Officers combed the area near the boy’s home near Mustang Drive and Tanglewood Drive, nearby parks and his route to school. Police asked residents and business owners to check their doorbell and security cameras for sightings of Zavien, who was wearing a black shirt with a gold Spider Man design, green pants and possibly carrying his blue backpack.
Shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, police found Zavien unharmed, sleeping on a friend’s couch near his own home.
“We want to thank our amazing community for the support and help in locating this little boy,” police said on Facebook. “We also thank the multiple partnering agencies who responded so quickly to assist in this search effort.”
