On July 18, 2024, Pharr, Texas, celebrated a significant milestone for Greenway Produce Co., a key player in the city’s economic landscape. The event, led by Karina Lopez, economic development manager for Pharr Economic Development, saw the attendance of city officials, local business leaders, and representatives from Senator Ted Cruz’s office.
The gathering at Pharr Produce Park highlighted Pharr’s dedication to business growth and community development. The distinguished guests were Assistant City Managers Hilda Pedraza, Dr. David Friedlein, and Adriana Gomez from Senator Cruz’s office. Lopez stressed the vital role businesses like Greenway play in the local economy by creating jobs and fostering growth in Pharr and the surrounding region.
Dr. David D. Friedlein praised the city’s growth and the significant contributions of the business community. He particularly acknowledged Ramon Mery’s impact on Pharr’s economic landscape, a sentiment echoed by Victor Pérez, president and CEO of the Pharr Economic Development Corporation (EDC).
Pérez reflected on the produce park’s early challenges, attributing its success to persistent efforts and strong investor relationships. He underscored the importance of collaboration, stating that it was a key factor in expediting development projects and achieving success.
The event also honored Joaquin Spamer, a key investor and promoter of the Prosperity Task Force and the newly created Rio Plex initiative, whose dedication has been crucial to the region’s development.
A highlight was the recognition of Ramon Mery, CEO of Greenway, for his foundational role in Pharr’s growth. Mery expressed gratitude to the city’s leadership and the Pharr EDC, emphasizing Greenway’s belief in Pharr’s potential. He noted the completion of a new facility. He praised Pharr’s strategic location and infrastructure investments, which have boosted operational efficiencies and reinforced the city’s status as a prime location for imports from Mexico.
The ceremony concluded with a token of appreciation presented to Mery and his family for their commitment to Pharr’s economic development. The official groundbreaking for Greenway’s nearly 95,000 SF build-to-suit space at the Pharr Produce Park significantly boosts the local economy, creating jobs and addressing the need for refrigerated space.
The Pharr EDC thanked everyone who attended, and special acknowledgment was given to Mr. Ramon Mery and his family for their continued investment. “Your presence and support have made this event memorable and successful,” Pérez said.
